Tips to have the GREATEST Spring Break.
(1) All kids must be accompanied by an adult.
(2) Be sure to bring enough adults.  Supervision is required.
(3) Plan ahead for special times and dates.
(4) If you plan to ice skate, bring a helmet and pads, too! Recommended.
(5) It will be busy so come early in the day and early in the week (Monday – Tuesday).  No Saturdays and Sundays this year.
(6) Parking is limited in some locations, so use the public parking downtown.
(7) Enjoy the rest of the fun downtown has to offer.  A great hotel for only $55 per night.
(8) Admission is $1 per child/youth at each attraction.  Adults attending with a child get in for $1.
(9) If the kids get hungry…no problem.  Check out the RiverLoop Public Market $1 Kid’s Menu.

So head on over to our studio in the Walker Building and enjoy family friendly live entertainment for kids and kids at heart.  Black Hawk Children’s Theatre, through the support of the R.J. McElroy Trust, is giving you a chance to not only experience a live theater performance!

Guess what?  They’ll even be looking for audience members to participate!

$1 Public Skating:
Monday – Thursday only.
Times: 12pm – 1pm;  2pm – 3pm;  4pm – 5pm.
For children ages 18 and under, and accompanying adults admission will be $1.00 and skate rental $1.00

For your safety:
*It is strongly recommended that all skaters wear a protective helmet (hockey or bike), elbow and kneepads when participating in any recreational skating activity.
*Skaters ages 10 & under must be accompanied by an adult on the ice.
*Shoes are not allowed on the ice.
*The carrying of young children while skating is not allowed.
*Young Arena does not have double bladed skates or skate aids for beginning or young skaters.

About Young Arena: Young Arena is the home of the Waterloo Black Hawks, Waterloo Warriors, Cedar Valley Figure Skating Club, and Waterloo Youth Hockey Association. Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum ($1 entry will also get you into the Grout Museum of History and Science)

Iowa veterans have a million stories to tell – tales of heroism, adventure, and sadly, of trauma and death. For 150 years, Iowa’s men and women have stepped forward to take an oath to preserve the union, safeguard democracy, and defend against terrorism in times of war and peace. The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum honors all Iowans who served the nation from the Civil War to the present. The collection, preservation, and interpretation of their stories and artifacts are the core mission of the museum.

Grout Museum of History & Science ($1 entry will also get you into the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum)

The Grout Museum of History & Science’s collection focuses on the period from 1833, when Iowa was opened for settlement, to the present. The Maytag Car, Rath Packing Company whistle and Pioneer Hall Mural help visitors envision and understand a bygone era.

A “playground for the imagination”, this interactive science center provides fun, hands-on exhibits that demonstrate how science affects everyday life.

Visitors may also enjoy daily science demonstrations during Spring Break Week.

For just $1 you can explore the history of wrestling!  The mission of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum is to Preserve History, Recognize Excellence & Inspire Generations. Inside our fantastic facility there is a theater, library, training center complete with a wrestling mat, locker rooms and bleachers, Olympic and NCAA pavilions, gift shop, and hundreds of pictures and artifacts.

The museum celebrates the World’s Oldest and Greatest Sport going back to wrestling being the first sport mentioned in the bible. Abraham Lincoln, Frank Gotch, Dan Hodge, Dan Gable, John Smith, Kenny Monday and Cael Sanderson are among the many great champion wrestlers who are showcased in the museum.

The Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa induction ceremony takes place each April where Iowans with outstanding wrestling achievements are honored. The George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend happens in July. This includes a Celebrity Golf Tournament, professional wrestling show and Hall of Fame festivities. We also have the Alan & Gloria Rice Greco-Roman Hall of Champions, which had it’s first inductions class in October of 2009.
